IRA Gifts

The White House and Congress have voted to restore a tax incentive for older donors who give through their individual retirement accounts (IRAs) through 2013. An IRA owner aged 70½ or older may give up to $100,000 tax-free this year from their accounts to 501(c)(3) charities like Lung Cancer Alliance. For donors, the possible tax benefits of a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) from an IRA are threefold: a QCD counts toward your required minimum distribution (RMD), but it doesn’t count as taxable income; a QCD can help you reduce the size of your taxable estate; and a QCD could also help you contend with charitable donation limits. If you have questions about giving from your IRA to Lung Cancer Alliance, please contact donate@lungcanceralliance.org or call 202.463.2080.
