LCA-NY Issues Call to Action for Lung Cancer Legislation

May 12, 2010--LCA-NY urges you to contact your U.S. Representatives asking them to co-sponsor the Lung Cancer Mortality Reduction Act (HR 2112).  This legislation leads the way in seeking a comprehensive, coordinated plan for lung cancer prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment.  At least $75 million will be dedicated in the first year alone.  Most importantly, it declares lung cancer a public health priority and supports research that aims to cut lung cancer deaths in half by 2016.

In New York, both Senators Schumer and Gillibrand have co-sponsored the bill in the Senate.  However, only six of the 29 Representatives of NY have co-sponsored the bill (please see these Representatives listed below).  LCA-NY chair Phyllis Goldstein took the important first step in emailing the 23 Representatives urging them to co-sponsor the bill.  Now we need your help!

Go to LCA Advocacy Action and in just three clicks you can directly email your representatives.  We have written the majority of the letter, inserting statistics that will catch your Representative's attention.  You are then given the opportunity to add your own personal message and share your personal story.  By entering your address, the website knows who your representatives are and sends the email directly from their website.
