- Lung Cancer Basics
Thursday, July 27, 2017 - Today, we are proud to acknowledge Congressman Rick Nolan (D-MN), chair of the Congressional Lung Cancer Caucus; for offering an amendment to provide an additional $2 million to the Lung Cancer Research Program (LCRP) within the Department of Defense (DOD) Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP). The amendment to H.R. 3219 Make America Secure Appropriations Act of 2018 was taken up today on the House floor.
Lung Cancer Alliance (LCA) was responsible for establishing the dedicated the LCRP pipeline in FY09 with congressional appropriations. LCA has consistently secured funding for it every fiscal year totaling funding of $113,500,000 from FY09-17. The Lung Cancer Research Program at CDMRP has played a critical role in supporting high-impact, innovative lung cancer research within the military and general public in several areas including risk assessment, prevention, early detection, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and outcomes.
LCA thanks Congressman Nolan for his continued leadership and compassion for the lung cancer community. He is a true ally in the fight to accelerate research breakthroughs that will lead to cures.
