Long Time Lung Cancer Survivor Mike Stevens Remembered

Mike and LCA President & CEO on the Hill at our Capitol Forum. Today, Lung Cancer Alliance mourns the passing Mike Stevens, a driving force in the lung cancer movement in California and across the country. Mike, a never
smoker, was diagnosed with late stage lung cancer over eight years ago and came to Lung Cancer Alliance shortly thereafter and was a founding member of our CA chapter and National Advocate Advisory Council. His involvement and “never take no for an answer attitude” contributed to the largest legislative victory in the history of lung cancer—the passage of the Recalcitrant Cancer Research Act.

Mike was truly an inspiration to survivors and families across the country. He never turned down a request for help and he brought the lung cancer community together in San Diego through the San Diego Breath of Hope Walk. Mike helped countless people find hope and support in their most trying times.

We will remember Mike’s smile, his sense of humor and his absolute love of hunting (even moving meetings to accommodate the opening of dove or elk season).  We extend our heartfelt gratitude for all he has done for those with lung cancer over the past eight years. He will be missed.

We extend our deepest sympathies to Mike’s family and loved ones. May they take great comfort in knowing the extraordinary contributions he made to us all.
