Lung Cancer Alliance congratulates our Medical and Professional Advisory Board member, Fred R. Hirsch, MD, PhD who has been selected as the new CEO of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC). Dr. Hirsch will officially take on the role following the World Conference on Lung Cancer in Sydney, Australia Oct. 27-30.
Hirsch is a professor of medicine and pathology at the CU School of Medicine in Aurora and a leader in the medical community and lung cancer community. He has made lung cancer early detection a key focus of his career, having helped identify and validate prognostic markers for lung cancer outcomes and predictive markers for lung cancer therapies. We thank Dr. Hirsch for his steadfast dedication to the lung cancer community and for his ongoing commitment to helping advance the work of Lung Cancer Alliance.
Hirsch holds a medical degree and doctorate from the University of Copenhagen and a degree from the Copenhagen Business School. His specialty is medical oncology, but he trained in pathology as well. Hirsch has been an active member of the IASLC since 1977, having served as chair of the pathology committee, chair of the prevention and early detection committee and is associate editor of the Journal of Thoracic Oncology. He also has served on the IASLC board since 2005, and is treasurer of the association.
