LCA Asks Department of Health and Human Services to Clarify Smoking Cessation Benefits

Tuesday, February 19, 2014 - Lung Cancer Alliance, along with 29 other health advocacy groups, sent a letter to Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), requesting HHS provide additional clarification and guidance on tobacco cessation benefits. The Affordable Care Act ensures customers are provided tobacco cessation benefits, however details as to what these benefits include have not been released. As a result, there are varied tobacco cessation services covered by insurance providers, as indicated in HHS’ most recent Surgeon General’s report. Additional guidance or clarification will reduce these coverage variations and help those who wish to quit do so successfully.
