Additional $10.2 Million In Federal Lung Cancer Research Funding Passes Next Hurdle

WASHINGTON, DC [July 8, 2011] – LCA is pleased to report that another important hurdle was passed last evening in our continuing effort to secure increased public health research funding for lung cancer. The House of Representatives voted to approve HR 2219, the FY12 Department of Defense (DOD) Appropriations Bill, by a vote of 331 – 83. Included in this legislation is the Lung Cancer Research Program which LCA helped establish in 2009. The House voted to continue funding for this program in the amount of $10.2 million. This bill now moves to the United Senates Senate for consideration. LCA will continue its work to protect both this research pipeline and funding levels on behalf of those affected by lung cancer. To date, LCA has worked with congressional leaders to secured $48. 7 million via this pipeline for lung cancer research – with specific consideration for military men and women who are at increased risk for lung cancer.
