July 30, 2010 -- LCA along with over 40 organizations representing millions of patients, caregivers, health care providers, petitioned Congress to support $25 million allocated to Regulatory Science in President Obama’s FY 11 budget request. Each year, billions of dollars are designated to biomedical research , aimed at bringing new treatments and hope to patients and families fighting illness. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) serves as the nexus between medical research and clinical application. Regulatory Science aims to develop, assess and provide new, validated tools and approaches to better evaluate the utility of new medical products. The increased funding support advocated by LCA and others will help ensure the safety and efficacy of critically needed new drugs and foster innovation of new therapies.
