In Memoriam: LCA Mourns the Loss of Members of the LCA Family

LCA has been saddened by the loss of members of our family. Tammy Willett of Georgia, Dave Grant of Wisconsin and Sandy Phillips Britt of California have lost their courageous battles with lung cancer. Each brought such strength and grace to our mission. Tammy, Dave, Sandy, and Cynthia have been a part of the LCA family since the beginning.

Tammy Willett, diagnosed in March of 2005, was never a smoker who became an instrumental force in raising awareness of lung cancer throughout Georgia. She was tireless in her efforts to find a cure for lung cancer. Tammy founded a golf tournament, Every Breath You Take outside of Atlanta that provided Emory University with the largest donation for lung cancer research from a single event in state history.

Dave Grant gave of himself after completely after his diagnosis in 2001. He started sharing his story and in doing so helped countless others. He co-founded the first ever online support community for lung cancer patients and caregivers. This has grown into the LCA Survivors Community.

Sandy Phillips Britt, co-founder of LCA-CA, lost her father and brother to lung cancer before she was diagnosed as a never smoker, just a few short years ago. Sandy eloquently shared her story and helped change the face of the lung cancer and erase the stigma of smoking so long associated with the disease.

LCA will be forever grateful to these four individuals who took action upon diagnosis and worked to help others as they fought for their own lives. LCA will be forever committed to fulfilling our mission in their honor.
