Speak Out

The Lung Cancer Alliance will post Calls to Action here. This is the place to find out about what you can do to support legislation for more lung cancer research and increase lung cancer awareness.

If you have something to say that can encourage others to take action, send or email us your comments and we'll post selections.

Senators Chuck Hagel and Hillary Clinton and Congressman Clay Shaw Introduce Resolutions in Congress

A milestone was reached as the first ever bicameral bipartisan legislation was introduced in Congress declaring lung cancer a major national public health priority and calling for a 50% reduction in mortality within nine years.  Unveiled during the Lung Cancer Alliance Advocacy Conference, Senator Chuck Hagel (R-NE) and Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) introduced S.Res 408 for Senate consideration. Congressman Clay Shaw (R-FL) introduced H. Res 739, a similar resolution, in the House of Representatives.  Now is the time to urge your Members of the Senate and the House of Representatives to become cosponsors of these resolutions.  To contact your representative simply go to www.house.gov/writerep/ and enter your ZIP code.

Access to Iressa

As of September 15, 2005, access to Iressa will be restricted in the United States.  After September 15, 2005, U.S. patients who have never taken Iressa will not be able to receive it.  Learn more.  Patients who have felt benefit from Iressa want others to have access to it.  Join them in sharing your comments with AstraZeneca, the manufacturer of Iressa, on this matter.  One advocate, Sandra Phillips Britt, has written a letter that you can use as a model.
