Lung Cancer Alliance-Georgia Commitment:
Better Grades
LCA-GA’s mission is to lead the movement in Georgia to reverse decades of stigma and neglect by empowering those with or at risk for the disease, elevating awareness and changing public health policy.
LCA-GA INTENDS TO DO THE FOLLOWING:
Advocate for increased state and federal support for lung cancer research funding
LCA-GA commits to working with the Governor, state and federal officials to increase legislative support for research funding for lung cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. We also commit to getting a lung cancer research check off box on state tax forms to help fund these priorities. LCA will work to increase funding for the newly established lung cancer research pipeline within the Department of Defense.
Advocate for earlier detection and disease management
LCA-GA commits to pursue funding for lung cancer early detection pilot initiatives using the latest technology and best practices to ensure the highest level of care is provided to those at high risk. Atlanta has the highest incidence of lung cancer in African-American males in the nation. This disparity must be addressed.
Strengthen strategic alliances
LCA-GA commits to further strengthening its partnerships with Georgia Cancer Coalition, the Cancer Survivor Leadership Council, Center for Health Transformation, Wellstar Health System, Emory Winship Cancer Institute, St. Joseph’s Hospital, the Georgia Department of Human Resources, Joan Gaeta Foundation and other public and private organizations committed to improving the care and treatment of lung cancer patients and those at risk for the disease.
Enhance patient support
LCA-GA commits to educating and supporting Georgia lung cancer patients, survivors, caregivers and families by providing information on the best and latest treatment and support options. We will inform patients and caregivers about clinical trials as a treatment option. LCA literature is available to patients at many locations, allowing them to take advantage of LCA services. We are working on co-branding literature with several of our partners.
Educate the public
LCA-GA commits to increasing awareness of the public health impact of lung cancer and the need for state agencies to collaborate on lung cancer initiatives. We commit to building a more robust grassroots network, producing an annual report card on lung cancer, obtaining an annual proclamation declaring November, Lung Cancer Awareness Month, providing a e-mail alert, to inform legislators, medical professionals and the public as important issues materialize and organizing awareness events, such as the Atlanta Lung Cancer Awareness Run Walk.
LCA-GA Chapter
LCA-GA will continue to expand and provide the support and scaffolding for patients, their families and caregivers and friends to become strategic parts of the growing national movement to reverse decades of stigma and neglect.
