The Department of Defense (DOD) funds cancer research through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP). In 2009, through the efforts of our Board and policy staff, we were able to see the creation of the first ever Lung Cancer Research Program within the CDMRP.
Each year, this program is funded through the large Defense Authorization bill. The total research funding secured to date is $89.5 million! We will continue working to make sure this program remains in tact while we engage other agencies in the fight against lung cancer.
The funding totals per year are as follows:
Fiscal Year 2015: $10.5 million
Fiscal Year 2014: $10.5 million
Fiscal Year 2013: $10.5 million
Fiscal Year 2012: $10.2 million
Fiscal Year 2011: $12.8 million
Fiscal Year 2010: $16 million
Fiscal Year 2009: $20 million
