Help us tell the complete story of lung cancer, by sharing yours. Read on to find out ways you can share your story with other survivors to provide hope and with the media to provide information.
In 2011, on November 1st and throughout the month, volunteers hosted 82 Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigils in 33 states and Washington, DC, making it the most successful year yet here in the US. Also, for the first time ever, Shine a Light on Lung Cancer Vigils were held beyond our borders. In partnership with us, the Australian Lung Foundation hosted vigils throughout Australia as well.
Vigil attendees stop and pause for a picture in Sydney, Australia.
The goal for these events is simple--to help ease the burden of all those impacted by lung cancer by connecting our special community with the support and information they need and then encouraging all to take action!
Vigils feature personal stories and messages of hope from lung cancer survivors or loved ones; presentations by a healthcare professionals and a call to action for those in attendance. The most moving and special part of the night is the acknowledgement of the survivors in attendance and the moment of silence to honor all those who have been touched by lung cancer.
We are starting to plan vigils for 2012 now! Our goal is to have 100 vigils representing all 50 states and Washington, DC and we need your help to reach it! If you would like to attend a vigil, host a vigil and join the movement, let us know! Visit www.shinealightonlungcancer.org or email Nisa Natrakul, nnatrakul@lungcanceralliance.org.
