Phone Buddy Program
The Phone Buddy Program provides peer-to-peer support for people with lung cancer and their caregivers by telephone. Phone Buddy volunteers lend support and share information and resources. For many, talking with someone who has been through a similar situation can really make a difference.
To be matched
It’s easy to get connected. Just call our toll-free information line at 1 (800) 298-2436 and ask to be matched with a Phone Buddy volunteer.
An LCA staff member will ask questions about the lung cancer and treatments that you or your loved one are going through or will be going through. Buddies are generally matched according to the kind and stage of lung cancer. We also try to match specific requests as much as possible. An important part of the match process is finding out what you will find most helpful in a Buddy. We will then link you with a Buddy who will most appropriately match your needs. Once paired, you can learn about the Buddy’s experiences, share your own, and ask questions about treatment and coping. Our Buddies are not medical professionals so they can’t give medical advice but they can tell you about their own experiences, provide support, and above all, hope.
To volunteer
LCA is always looking for survivors to join the Phone Buddy Program and we’d love to have you join us. If you are interested in providing information, hope, and support by phone, just call us at 1 (800) 298-2436 or email support@lungcanceralliance.org. We will send you an introductory packet that fully explains the volunteer process.
