In Memory of Laurie Anderegg

Laurie Anderegg
My mom, Laurie Anderegg

My mom, Laurie Anderegg, died on April 4, 2002. She was born in Seattle on 9/9/49 and as a result, always held the number 9 in special regard. It was her soccer number for years, her lucky number, and the number she had shaved into the back of her head after she started chemotherapy.

My mom's first love was always her family.  Soccer, running and other outdoor sports came a close second to her family on Laurie's priority list. She loved the outdoors. She skied, hiked, biked and ran. But soccer came out on top of the sports hierarchy. Although she didn't start playing until she was 36, she quickly became a skilled and sought-after team member. She played on multiple indoor and outdoor teams throughout the years. We also used to run together as a family all the while growing up. That's why I chose to do Run for the Lungs (ALCASE's marathon team) in the Chicago Marathon in 2002.

My mom had a zest for life and a generosity of spirit seldom found. She was loved by all whose lives she touched. Although I miss her incredibly, I know she's there supporting me in everything I do, smiling down on me and planning for her next soccer game.
