Faces of Lung Cancer

In Memory of Donald "Rex" Brooks

Mom & Dad (Rex Brooks)
Dad & Mom

Donald "Rex" Brooks, 60, of Smyrna, Georgia passed away on August 4, 2003. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in November 2002, but died of acute respiratory distress syndrome, a complication of pneumonia, only a few months after being told the cancer had shrunk.

My Dad was a wonderful singer. He had a song recorded called "Don't Let Me Dream Again", that he wrote himself. He had a band and performed for different events and sang at a couple of hotel clubs.

My Dad had a huge interest in cars and owned his own auto shop for many years. He even made a Ford coupe with his own hands from a Volkswagen beetle. It was beautiful and we use to travel to different cities to be in car shows where he won many trophies and awards. His car was featured in the "World of Wheels" in Atlanta, Ga. He served in the Navy from Feb 1961 - May 1963.

My father was a very loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He found a close relationship with God, especially in the last months of his life. He took comfort in knowing when it was his time, he would be with the Lord. He is survived by his wife, Rosie, shown in the picture with him; 6 children- Donald Brooks Jr, Jay Brooks , Brandon Brooks, Seconda Nesbit, Sebrina Gloyd, and Shawna Crowley; 16 grandchildren- Kenny, Jessica, Koda, Arlye, Alisha, Brett, Bradley, Chasity, Tera, Hannah, Kailey, Christopher, Ayanna, Hunter, Darian and Devin. We all miss him so much. He will forever be in our hearts.
