Faces of Lung Cancer

In Memory of Cynthia Mele

In loving memory of Cynthia Mele, wife, mother, sister and friend.

Cynthia was first diagnosed with small cell in November of 2004.

She was a former smoker who had quit over a decade ago.

After finishing chemo, she had a brief remission over the summer

in which time she was able to enjoy a trip of a lifetime with her husband John,

the love of her friends. Sadly her cancer returned by the end of the summer . She was still healthy enough to travel to Pennsylvania with her husband and participate in a lung cancer walk her daughter organized in November, a year after her diagnosis. Cynthia lost her battle on April 19th, 2006.
Cynthia was very active in her Church and was instrumental in many civil rights issues including recognition of women priests in the Episcopal church in the mid 1970's and passing of the equal rights amendment.
She will always be remembered by all that new her for her kind heart, warm smile, and clever sense of humor. Even up till her final days she was making jokes. She used to tell her children that other than her lung cancer she was really in good health. Above all Cynthia wanted people to no that her cancer was caused by a 30 year addiction to smoking.
We miss her terribly and even though she is gone she will always remain forever in hearts.
